Importance Of Monitoring Indoor Air Quality

The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999) states that employers have a ‘duty of care’ in ensuring that their employees work in a comfortable environment.

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is a condition recognised by the World Health Organisation and the HSE. The causes of unsatisfactory air quality can be wide ranging, but the effects are noticeable and can be detrimental to the comfort of employees in the workplace. These symptoms do not apparently cause permanent damage but can have significant impact on those affected and place large costs on the organisation.

Our standard scheme of indoor air quality testing identifies common indoor contaminants and factors. It provides information as to their presence as indicators of acceptable or unacceptable indoor air quality. All results are compared to current occupational & workplace exposure limits, with recommendations issued appropriately.

OUR SERVICE

We begin with interviewing the people who work in the affected site act as a critical element of the IAQ survey, as a wide range of factors can influence how an environment affects employers and staff. An engineer will conduct one-on-one and group interviews to get a comprehensive understanding of the situation.

Following the interviews, our next step will be to thoroughly examine the workplace environment for sources of contaminants and other air issues. This will include an inspection of the HVAC systems and collect samples for evaluation in a UKAS accredited laboratory. Some elements of the survey will also involve direct reading instruments that provide results on-site.

After conducting on-site interviews and sampling, the recordings obtained will be evaluated for bioaerosols and other biological components. If any tests have positive results, we can help you take the next step to resolve the issue.
